About CheckYourDisplay
Simple browser-based tools for checking common display and audio problems.
What is CheckYourDisplay?
CheckYourDisplay is a collection of tests you can run on any device with a web browser. Fill the screen with a solid color to look for dead pixels, estimate your refresh rate, send a tone to one speaker at a time, watch your microphone level, preview your camera, or press every key on your keyboard and see it light up.
The goal is to make basic hardware testing accessible without installing software. Open the page, press a button, look or listen. That is the whole process.
How the tools work
Every test runs in your browser using standard web APIs. Display tests use the Fullscreen API to cover the whole panel and draw patterns with ordinary CSS and the Canvas API. Audio tests synthesize tones with the Web Audio API. Microphone and camera tests ask for permission and then use the stream only inside the page. Input tests read keyboard, mouse, touch and gamepad events as they happen. Nothing is uploaded, and nothing about your device or your results leaves your browser.
What these tools are for
- Checking a new or second-hand screen for dead or stuck pixels before the return window closes.
- Looking for backlight bleed, uneven brightness, tint, banding, ghosting and burn-in.
- Confirming that speakers, headphones, microphones and cameras work before a call or a return.
- Finding a dead key, a faulty mouse button, a touch dead zone or a drifting controller stick.
- Seeing what your browser reports about your screen, device and supported features.
These tools are intended for basic testing and troubleshooting. They cannot reliably diagnose every hardware problem and cannot physically repair damaged hardware. If a test suggests a fault, check the manufacturer's pixel and warranty policy for your device.
