Microphone Recording Test

A level meter proves the microphone works; a recording tells you how it sounds. Record a few seconds, play it back, and delete it when you are done.

The recording is kept in memory in your browser only. It is never uploaded, and it is discarded when you delete it or close the tab.

Other microphones appear here once you allow access.

Ready

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or stored.

How to use

  1. If you have more than one microphone, choose the one to test from the Microphone list.
  2. Press Record and allow microphone access if asked.
  3. Speak for a few seconds, then press Stop. Recording stops by itself after 30 seconds.
  4. Press Play to hear the clip through your speakers or headphones. Pause stops it partway.
  5. Press Delete to remove the clip from memory. Recording again also replaces it, and closing the tab discards it.

What this test can detect

  • Muffled, distant or distorted sound from the microphone.
  • Echo, hum or hiss that you cannot see on a level meter.
  • The wrong microphone being used.
  • A delay or gap at the start of recordings.

Important

  • Recordings are kept in memory in your browser only. They are never uploaded, and this site has no server to send them to.
  • The browser chooses the recording format; it may not match what other apps use.
  • The length shown is measured by the page while recording. In some browsers the player itself cannot show the length or let you skip within the clip, but it still plays from start to end.
  • Playback quality also depends on your speakers. Try headphones to judge the microphone on its own.
