Dead Pixel Finder

Show one solid color at a time across the whole screen. A pixel that stays black, white, or a different color on every screen is dead or stuck.

How to use

  1. Wipe the screen with a soft, dry cloth so dust is not mistaken for a pixel.
  2. Press Start test to go fullscreen, then turn on Auto cycle or step through the colors yourself.
  3. Look closely at the entire screen for each color. Move your eyes slowly across it, section by section.
  4. Note any dot that does not change with the rest of the screen.
  5. Press Esc or Exit to finish.

What this test can detect

  • Dead pixels: dots that stay black on every color.
  • Stuck pixels: dots that stay red, green, blue, or white while the rest of the screen changes.
  • Hot pixels: dots that stay bright on the black screen.
  • Small clusters or lines of faulty pixels.

Important

  • A speck of dust or a fingerprint can look like a pixel fault. Clean the screen and check again before drawing a conclusion.
  • A dead pixel cannot be repaired by software. A stuck pixel sometimes recovers; you can try the Stuck Pixel Fixer.
  • Manufacturers have their own policies on how many faulty pixels justify a replacement. Count what you find and check the policy for your device.
